Introducing: The RELATE Method

 INTRODUCING:

The RELATE Method

Let me take you back: I'm staring in the mirror, wearing my Hypercolor t-shirt, and getting ready for the Greene County Fair. Seemingly overnight, I was someone who cared about the shape of my bangs, I had a new crush, and I felt like no one else understood me. My body was changing, and so were my beliefs about myself.

My mom was quickly shifting from my idol to the most uncool person I knew.
So. Embarrassing. And, busy! I couldn't possibly burden her with all the things happening to me.

With my Dad, I had perfected the art of being perfect when we were together. Our time was precious, so I didn't want to 'ruin' it by opening up about all of the things happening to me.

I knew my parents loved me and would do anything for me, but not without control and independence being taken away from me...the things I wanted most.

Of course, I had several close friends, but not one friend with who I felt 100% safe. I didn't really understand what these changes meant myself  - no one was talking about your 'inner voice' in 1990! I was just trying to keep up with what I thought was normal.

This was 6th grade...and 7th...and 8th.

But I could handle it by myself. Right?!

Wrong.

Sixth grade marked the beginning of toxic beliefs about myself and patterns in my relationships where I felt like I had to hide parts of myself and compromise my self-worth.

On the one hand, I liked my inner world because it was mine and I was 'handling' it and having fun. But there were countless times when I felt isolated, lonely, and insecure.

That's why I'm so excited to share >>

The RELATE Method is all about helping you build a bond between you that can face any challenge. And, you and I know early adolescence is riddled with challenges!

It's made for you with love in mind, because in all my years as a human and educator, I've seen time and time again how much suffering comes from our inability to RELATE.

I believe middle school really can be the best years between you.

I'm with you all the way,
